What a great season it has turned out to be ! The end of July finds fish in reliable patterns. Water temps hovering around the mid 70s. Fish are catchable on several different patterns, drop shot on boulders in 10 feet might be the most reliable. On Mille Lacs if you put the time in, you will be rewarded !
The spawn has been over for a bit now and fish are filtering towards their summer haunts. Several patterns are going on right now at several depths. Drop shot on boulders in deeper water is getting better, however there is still a fishable group of fish shallow. Spinnerbaits, dropshot, and jigs are taking fish in less than 10 feet. Blessed to fish this great
I was privileged to guide good friend Steve Mampe for two days last week. Those two days ended up being days Steve and I will never forget as Mille Lacs was at her best. Day one featured 37 smallmouth and a tagged fish to end the day, most fish were caught on tubes with a few on spinnerbaits. Little did we know the best was yet to come.
The next day at our first spot Steve caught his personal best 5.10 , and I even managed a tagged fish. On our next spot Steve erased the 5.10 with a 6 pound giant ! When fish number 38 was caught we called it good and headed in mid afternoon. Mille Lacs thank you for being you !
Got to fish with Mike and June the other day on a quick evening trip. They are two of the nicest people you could ever meet ! June is a fantastic fisherman who can chuck and wind a spinnerbait on a bait caster with the best of them….and she makes the best cookies a guide could ever have :). We managed several smallmouth and I gained 2 new friends, thanks Mike and June !
Fished with a couple southern boys from Table Rock Lake area. Had an absolute hoot of a time ! True bass fisherman and the salt of the earth kind of folks. Caught tons of nice smallmouth, talked about biscuits and gravy, and most importantly made 2 new friends.
Fishing the last 10 days has been fantastic ! With the full moon the smallmouth are busy with the spawn. Fish are being caught in a variety of ways such as dropshot and tubes while site fishing, pitching docks, and the Ned rig. Mayfly hatch right around the corner so enjoying it right now.
Had the great pleasure of fishing with Travis , a marine veteran who beyond earned a day on the lake ! Rdoutdoors was honored to have the chance to help Travis catch his personal best smallmouth, a 6 pound giant !
Had a great fishing partner in Robert from California, he fished hard all day and was rewarded ! Rdoutdoors.com lucky to along for the ride.
Cary and Amy from Iowa were great folks to spend an afternoon with !
