Crappie fishing is on fire in southern Illinois ! All area lakes are producing crappie. Recently fished Crab Orchard and Lake of Egypt and had no trouble putting fish in the boat. Both lakes have fish in the 8 to 15 feet of water range. Vertical jigging soft plastics is all that is needed. Water temps ranged from the high 50s to low 60s. The time is now for crappie !
Was and unbelievable finish to fall smallie fishing ! Baitfish herded up on several areas of the lake and fishing was good. With weather changes on the horizon made the switch to southern crappie. The crappie bite is good and will only get better !
Big fish on the move here at Mille Lacs ! Recent guide trip had 7 fish over 20 inches. Couple pics 🙂
With Labor Day passing it really is sinking in how fast summer went by ! I have been blessed to be busy with business and even more blessed to share my boat with some great people.
Of course I have my personal favorite moments, and those moments were the days spent with fathers and their young sons. The stewardship of this great sport is a relished responsibility and I hope the days I am referring to enhanced the love of fishing for these young men. I am truly grateful for those days on the water.
Still have some fall fish to catch, they are starting to put on some weight and great moments ahead ! Tight Lines. RD
Been an absolutely unreal summer here on Mille Lacs. I have let the almost daily facebook attachments suffice for my weekly reports. About a month and a half left depending on weather. Fish are starting to put on weight as a “pre” fall pattern has started. Ned rigs , drop shot, vertical jigging, hair jigs are all baits that have produced as of late. Starting to book for next year. Get hold of me and let’s go fishing !
What a great season it has turned out to be ! The end of July finds fish in reliable patterns. Water temps hovering around the mid 70s. Fish are catchable on several different patterns, drop shot on boulders in 10 feet might be the most reliable. On Mille Lacs if you put the time in, you will be rewarded !
The spawn has been over for a bit now and fish are filtering towards their summer haunts. Several patterns are going on right now at several depths. Drop shot on boulders in deeper water is getting better, however there is still a fishable group of fish shallow. Spinnerbaits, dropshot, and jigs are taking fish in less than 10 feet. Blessed to fish this great
I was privileged to guide good friend Steve Mampe for two days last week. Those two days ended up being days Steve and I will never forget as Mille Lacs was at her best. Day one featured 37 smallmouth and a tagged fish to end the day, most fish were caught on tubes with a few on spinnerbaits. Little did we know the best was yet to come.
The next day at our first spot Steve caught his personal best 5.10 , and I even managed a tagged fish. On our next spot Steve erased the 5.10 with a 6 pound giant ! When fish number 38 was caught we called it good and headed in mid afternoon. Mille Lacs thank you for being you !
Got to fish with Mike and June the other day on a quick evening trip. They are two of the nicest people you could ever meet ! June is a fantastic fisherman who can chuck and wind a spinnerbait on a bait caster with the best of them….and she makes the best cookies a guide could ever have :). We managed several smallmouth and I gained 2 new friends, thanks Mike and June !
